concept
An experiment in mobile technology and community storytelling
Mobile
technology connects us to people in remote locations while simultaneously
disconnecting us from our immediate environment. Our student group attempted
to reconnect the mobile user with their surroundings through the sharing
of stories via technology.
details
We applied the communal tradition of storytelling to
the contemporary urban landscape. People are able to call in or text
message their stories, creating a collection of narratives that expose
everyday thoughts and actions, bound in theme by a physical location.
result
To engage users, we designed and posted stickers throughout Atlanta.
The stickers asked, "You are here. Why?" and gave Storyscape’s phone number.
Each sticker was given a site number to identify and classify various city
locations. The text or audio stories were posted at Storyscape.com
to create a modern form of communal storytelling. Results were interesting,
varying from users who were simply intrigued to those who were willing to
commit a full-length personal story to the compilation.
